Good luck price matching this one at Walmart, Target or Baby’s R Us / Toys R Us! After 4 failed attempts at Walmart, Target and Baby’s R Us, Darrell store manager at a local Target finally says, “The ad says all counts and all sizes, yeah, it’s OK” to the astonishment of his rude and skeptical cashiers who were looking at the ad with a close magnifying glass, critiquing and second guessing the genuine local printed ad and giving me the run around!

This week’s ad in Dollar General’s store circular advertises Pampers Swaddlers for $9.50, All Counts and All Sizes! What does this mean? You can or *Should* be able to price match this item at Walmart or Target and Toys R Us/Baby’s R Us, who all advertise and boast that they will MATCH ANY ONLINE OR LOCAL COMPETITOR’S AD PRICE ON ANY ITEM, GUARANTEED, NO QUESTIONS ASKED (yeah, right).

I only had success with 1 box at 1 out of the 4 stores I went to.

Here’s what I was told at the Walmart I went to in Metro-Detroit:
“We don’t price match that item because “Ads when the actual price for items cannot be determined” – WHAT THE !#-&^#* HECK DOES THAT MEAN?
Keep in mind, I had the Dollar General official printed store circular in hand with the price in bold black ink: $9.50, SALE Pampers Swaddlers Diapers All counts and sizes. What more do you need, Walmart to verify or determine the actual price? The Walmart ad-match trip was a complete FAIL. To make matters worst, their corporate phone # did not work since no one works on Sundays. Great. End of story.

Here’s what I was told at the 2nd store, Target by a manager:
“No, uh uh, na uh, we don’t price match those diapers. They mean the JUMBO pack, not the BOX. It’s not the one in the picture you are price matching, it’s the plastic bag one.”

Me – Pointing to the ad, “Oh really? Where does it say Jumbo, can you show me? You’re just making that up lady” – is what I told her. She said “No, we have a right to not honor any pricing too.” End of store. Ok.

Here’s what the 3rd store, also Target told me:
“We don’t price match Dollar General. We don’t price match Dollar store prices!”

Me – “What? Dollar General sells things over $1, they are not a “Dollar” only store”

“They are not a competitor. We don’t price match them.” End of story.

Me “Oh really? Last time I checked, you priced match any advertised price from any local competitor.”

At this point I had had enough. I checked the Target website for their official price match wording. Target will in fact price match “Target.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com, ToysRUs.com, BabiesRUs.com or in a competitor’s local printed ad.

There are several local Dollar Generals within the vicinity of this Target.

Here’s what the 4th store, Toys R Us/Baby’s R Us told me:

“We don’t price match Dollar General.”

Here’s what their official corporate policy states: “We will match prices in our competitors’ local print advertisements.” Again, there are several local Dollar Generals within the vicinity of this store and I had the local printed ad in hand. End of story.

Finally, I got on the phone, called Target Corporate and told the lady my situation. She told me to go back to the previous Target so that she could talk to them over the phone. I said she should just call them herself. Long story short, I called the store and spoke to a manager by the name of Darrell, who was willing to honor the price match, limiting me to one box. I said,”Ok I will take it!”

When I returned to the store with my ad in hand, the cashier was STILL giving me a hard time and the run-around. “Sorry, this is a picture of a bag of diapers, not a box.” Even the other snooping cashier walked by and gave me his two cents (ha ha) “um yeah lady sorry this isn’t the right item.”

Will anyone please read the ad’s text instead of looking at the colorful pictures in the ad?

Thankfully, Darrell came to the rescue and said casually “All Count and All sizes, yeah that’s OK.” Finally no one uttered a word and the lady nicely rang me up for the $9.50.

Here’s what I got:
Pampers Swaddlers, 148 ct. I used a $1.50/1 coupons.com printable and a $5 GC and paid $3.41 out of pocket. Thank you and I’m done for the day!!!!!!
